Prayer Flags

I have always loved the sight of traditional Tibetan prayer flags, tattered and torn, fluttering in the wind ; they appeal to my senses, they are quiet and mindful. When I felt the need to commemorate the anniversary of the passing of a dear friend, it was not surprising that this was the format I chose. Maybe not the traditional use of a prayer flag, but one that served my purpose. It was so satisfying to sit and mindfully stitch colours and shapes and images that reminded me of Mary, and it gave me the time and mind-space to think about her and how much she meant to me. I found it a helpful process, so I continued to make more flags for the people I loved. The flags hang across my studio and continue to make me smile as I remember. So, I invite you to join me in a spirit of remembrance, or whatever approach suits you. Using appropriate fabrics, colours, symbols and images, your treasured items, that fit with your ideas and your purpose, you can create a memory piece similar to my format, or one of your own design.
